HOUSTON — FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced Wednesday that two brothers—Terry Ardoin, 24, and Travonte Ardoin, 27—have been charged in connection with a brazen daylight ambush killing tied to Houston’s violent “Free Money” gang.

Court documents allege the Ardoins targeted rivals on June 24, 2022, following their Chevrolet Equinox into a shopping center parking lot. Wearing masks, the brothers allegedly opened fire as the victims returned to their vehicle, killing one and injuring another.

The “Free Money” gang, authorities say, is involved in robbery, home invasions, drug distribution, and murder, with this attack linked to an ongoing turf war.

The charges include murder and attempted murder in aid of racketeering, use of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, and causing death with a firearm. If convicted, the brothers face life imprisonment or the death penalty.

Bongino credited the FBI’s Houston office and local police, noting this arrest is another success under the Summer Heat initiative, aimed at dismantling violent gang networks.
