Washington, D.C. – The Senate Judiciary Committee voted today to advance the nomination of Harmeet Dhillon, the founder and CEO of the Center for American Liberty, to the full Senate for confirmation. Dhillon, nominated by President Donald Trump in December to serve as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, delivered a strong performance during her confirmation hearing on February 26, 2025.

Dhillon, known for her decades-long legal career and multiple victories at the United States Supreme Court, emphasized her commitment to protecting civil liberties, free speech, and religious freedom. Her testimony earned praise from several Republican senators, including Mike Lee and Josh Hawley, who highlighted her unwavering dedication to justice.

Senator Mike Lee commended Dhillon’s career, stating:

“Harmeet Dhillon’s career reflects conviction and the relentless pursuit of justice, no matter the cost.”

Meanwhile, Senator Josh Hawley drew attention to Dhillon’s personal journey and its connection to America’s foundational principles, saying:

“You spoke very movingly about religious liberty. It made me think of that line that America didn’t invent religious liberty; religious liberty invented America. And your family’s story is certainly a testament to that.”

Throughout the hearing, Dhillon addressed critical issues related to civil rights enforcement, vowing to uphold the law without bias or political influence. While she received strong support from conservatives, some Senate Democrats questioned her past legal challenges to progressive policies. However, Dhillon remained steadfast in her commitment to fairness and equal justice under the law.

With the Judiciary Committee’s approval, her nomination will now proceed to the full Senate for a final confirmation vote in the coming weeks. Her extensive legal experience and strong backing from conservative lawmakers suggest that her confirmation is likely.
