BREAKING: DeSantis Raises Idea Of Wife Casey Running For FL Governor: 'She Would Do Better Than Me'

Ron DeSantis

At a press briefing, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis floated the idea of his wife, Casey DeSantis, as a potential successor for the Florida governorship, praising her leadership qualities and conservative principles. His remarks come amid speculation about the 2026 gubernatorial race and the recent endorsement of Rep. Byron Donalds by President Donald Trump.

DeSantis on His Wife’s Potential Candidacy

During the press briefing, DeSantis was asked about his choice for lieutenant governor and potential political successors. While he deferred an immediate decision on the lieutenant governor role, he spoke at length about the possibility of Casey DeSantis stepping into a leadership role.

"People ask me all the time about our wonderful First Lady, who has done a fantastic job as First Lady of Florida," DeSantis said. "She’s never angled for anything because that’s just not who she is. But I will tell you this: I won by the biggest margin any Republican has ever won a governor’s race in Florida. She would do better than me. There’s no question about that."

DeSantis also recalled a conversation with the late conservative icon Rush Limbaugh, who once told him, "The only person I would rather have as my governor than you is her." The governor noted that Casey DeSantis' dedication to conservative principles and leadership skills could take Florida’s successes "to the next level."

Trump Endorses Byron Donalds

While DeSantis hinted at his wife’s potential, former President Donald Trump has already thrown his support behind Rep. Byron Donalds for Florida Governor in 2026. Trump’s endorsement of Donalds signals a growing divide between the former president and DeSantis, who was once seen as Trump’s heir apparent in the Republican Party.

Donalds, a staunch Trump ally, has been vocal about his support for the former president’s policies and has built a strong base among conservatives in Florida. With Trump’s backing, he is expected to be a formidable contender in the 2026 race.
