Republican Ralph Massullo defeats Democrat Ash Marwah in the District 11 special election, reinforcing GOP leadership across Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties.

Florida — In a decisive win Tuesday evening, Republican Dr. Ralph Massullo Jr. captured the special election for Florida Senate District 11, defeating Democrat Ash Marwah and ensuring the GOP retains control of the seat.

According to official results, Massullo received 59.2% of the vote (49,085 ballots), compared with 40.8% (33,791 votes) for Marwah.

The special election was triggered after former State Senator Blaise Ingoglia resigned in July 2025 to become Florida’s Chief Financial Officer. District 11 includes all of Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties, as well as part of northwest Pasco County.

Massullo, a Lecanto-based dermatologist and veteran lawmaker, previously served four terms in the Florida House of Representatives. He entered the race after a commanding victory in the September Republican primary over rancher Anthony Brice.

Marwah, an engineer and longtime resident of The Villages, ran as a political newcomer. His campaign centered on expanding affordable housing, improving access to health care, and increasing state funding for public education.

As the newly elected senator, Massullo takes over a district long regarded as a Republican stronghold. His win reinforces GOP momentum in the region as voters continue to prioritize issues such as public safety, limited government, economic development, and parental rights.

Supporters say Massullo’s victory reflects growing dissatisfaction with federal policies, rising costs of living, and what many believe are ineffective progressive proposals. Residents across District 11 will now look to him to champion local concerns in Tallahassee, particularly in the areas of education, health care, infrastructure, and economic opportunity.

Massullo is expected to be sworn in ahead of the next legislative session, where his background as both a physician and legislator is likely to shape his priorities in the Florida Senate.

Donald Trump EU Threatens to Halt U.S. Trade Deal as Trump’s Greenland Tariff Dispute Reignites Transatlantic Tensions Brussels/Rome — Relations between the European Union and the United States are once again sliding into turmoil as fresh tariff threats from President Donald Trump jeopardize last summer’s EU-U.S. trade agreement and prompt growing calls in Brussels for retaliation. The latest standoff centers on Washington’s warning of new tariffs of up to 25% on countries that deployed troops to Greenland — a move European officials see as direct economic coercion tied to Trump’s renewed push to bring Greenland under U.S. control.
