This morning, thousands are expected to pack the streets of downtown for the return of 2022 Pittsburgh's labor day parade. It is touted as one of the largest parades in the country. It is set to begin at 10:00 AM today along Centre Avenue and continue through downtown before ending here at the United Steelworkers building.
Other prominent Democrats, including Senate candidate John Fetterman and gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro, are planning to attend the labor parade, though it is not clear whether they will appear jointly with President Joe Biden, in part because of the uncertainty surrounding his plans.
Crews already have the signs and barriers ready to be set up today. Upon talking to the parade people, they said, "
A little rain won’t keep us away! Happy Labor Day from the Pittsburgh Labor Day Parade!!!
A health care worker told us that:
We are proud to stand with SEIU (Service Employees International Union) chapters and laborers across Pennsylvania in the Pittsburgh Allegheny Labor Parade!
Our purple people—essential workers!—are making our presence felt here in downtown Pittsburgh at the Labor Day parade! Our nursing home workers on strike feel the solidarity from all unions!
ROAD CLOSURES Begin at 7:30 am for Pittsburgh's Labor Day Parade. Staging areas will be blocked off along Liberty and Centre Aves with the Parade Route closing Grant St and the Blvd of the Allies.
