Elon Musk Backs Trump’s Threat of Legal Action Against Grammy Host Trevor Noah After Epstein Joke
WASHINGTON — Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk publicly voiced support for President Donald Trump after the president threatened legal action against Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah over remarks made during the live broadcast.
During the 68th Grammy Awards, Noah congratulated Billie Eilish for winning Song of the Year before making a joke referencing Trump and the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The comment quickly drew attention online and prompted a sharp response from the president.
Noah quipped that the Grammy was something artists want “almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” before adding a second line referencing Epstein and former President Bill Clinton. The remarks marked one of the few political jokes in what had otherwise been a largely entertainment-focused ceremony.
President Trump responded on Truth Social, calling the awards “virtually unwatchable” and criticizing Noah’s comments as false and defamatory. He denied ever visiting Epstein’s island and said he had never been accused of doing so prior to the televised remarks.
“I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless MC,” Trump wrote, adding that Noah needed to “get his facts straight.”
Shortly after Trump’s post, Elon Musk weighed in, writing: “I strongly support suing Trevor Noah,” signaling agreement with the president’s position that the comments crossed a legal line.
Noah, who previously announced this would be his final year hosting the Grammys, has typically kept political commentary limited during the ceremony. His remarks, however, quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night.
The controversy comes as public interest in documents related to Epstein has surged following the recent release of millions of records that reference numerous public figures. Trump has previously said he distanced himself from Epstein years before the financier’s arrest and death.
As of now, no formal lawsuit has been filed, but the exchange has sparked widespread debate online over the boundaries between satire, political commentary, and defamation.
