Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski Breaks with Republicans, Defends Mark Kelly Amid Sedition Firestorm

🚨 JUST IN: Sen. Lisa Murkowski Breaks with GOP, Defends Mark Kelly Amid Sedition Firestorm

In a stunning development on Tuesday, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) publicly sided with Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) as he faces accusations of sedition and a potential military investigation—putting her directly at odds with much of her party and former President Donald Trump.

Murkowski condemned the mounting scrutiny against Kelly, calling the allegations “reckless and flat-out wrong.”

“To accuse him and other lawmakers of treason and sedition for rightfully pointing out that servicemembers can refuse illegal orders is reckless and flat-out wrong. The Department of Defense and FBI surely have more important priorities than this frivolous investigation.”

Her statement comes as Kelly is under review following a video in which he and other Democrats suggested U.S. troops could refuse “illegal orders.” Trump has blasted the group as the “Seditious Six,” repeatedly accusing them of sedition, even claiming such actions are “punishable by DEATH.”

IN FULL: Mark Kelly Panics as Pete Hegseth’s Court-Martial Push Explodes

Despite Trump winning Alaska by 13 points in 2020, Murkowski is taking a rare public stance against the former president and GOP hardliners. Few Republicans have openly criticized the investigation or Trump’s rhetoric.

Murkowski also highlighted Kelly’s military and space credentials:

“Senator Kelly valiantly served our country as an aviator in the U.S. Navy before later completing four space shuttle missions as a NASA astronaut.”

The controversy escalated after Trump reposted calls for extreme punishment, including a message declaring, “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD!!”

While House and Senate leaders have distanced themselves from Trump’s language, Murkowski is one of the only Republicans to openly defend Kelly and challenge the legitimacy of the Pentagon’s probe.

The clash sets up a dramatic political divide: one of the Senate’s most independent Republicans backing a Democrat accused of sedition—against a former president who still dominates GOP politics.

Unbelievable moment. The pressure—and the fallout—are only growing.

✅ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Why is Sen. Mark Kelly under investigation?

Mark Kelly came under scrutiny after appearing in a video suggesting U.S. troops could refuse “illegal orders,” prompting accusations of sedition from former President Donald Trump and calls for review by federal agencies.

2. What did Sen. Lisa Murkowski say in his defense?

Murkowski called the accusations “reckless and flat-out wrong,” arguing that Kelly and others were simply stating that servicemembers have the right to refuse unlawful commands.

3. Why is Murkowski’s stance significant?

Because she is a Republican from a state Trump won by 13 points, making her public support for Kelly a rare break from GOP alignment and Trump’s rhetoric.

4. Did other Republicans defend Kelly?

So far, very few Republicans have openly pushed back. Most have avoided directly challenging Trump’s statements or the ongoing scrutiny.

5. What exactly did Trump accuse Kelly of?

Trump labeled Kelly and five others as engaging in “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR,” even amplifying posts calling for severe punishment, including death.

6. Is Mark Kelly still subject to military law?

While Kelly is a retired Navy captain, questions about jurisdiction fall under the Department of Defense. The broader debate centers on whether his statements could be considered actionable under military codes.

7. What was the video about?

The video urged troops to understand they can refuse illegal orders—an argument critics say undermines military discipline, while supporters say reflects lawful reality.

8. Has the Pentagon confirmed any charges?

As of now, no formal charges have been announced. The situation remains under review.

9. Why is this controversy gaining so much attention?

It combines military law, political division, Trump’s influence, and accusations of sedition—a highly explosive mix in U.S. politics.
