Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) fires back at the College Board over its criticisms of his opposition to its AP African-American Studies course.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has recently fired back at the College Board over its proposed AP African-American Studies course, which he believes includes elements of "queer theory" and "intersectionality" that are not aligned with the education standards set by the Florida Department of Education.
DeSantis stated that the College Board was responsible for incorporating these elements into the course, and the Florida Department of Education deemed them inappropriate, instead opting for education over indoctrination. The governor also indicated that the College Board is not elected to any official position and simply provides a service and that other vendors may be able to provide better services in the future.
In response to the controversy, DeSantis has hinted that the legislature may reevaluate the role of the College Board in providing AP courses and the credit given to them by universities in Florida. He believes that the issue of certain individuals trying to push their agendas into the education system is a larger problem that needs to be addressed.
DeSantis has expressed his stance on the matter, stating that he is tired of individuals not doing what is right due to the fear of being called names and that he is determined to do what is right for the people of Florida. The governor has received support from people across the political spectrum who share his views on the matter.
