At a House Oversight Committee hearing last week, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Dan Goldman (R-NY) spoke about Twitter.
The recent House Oversight Committee hearing focused on the role of social media, particularly Twitter, in politics. The hearing saw a discussion between representatives Comer and Goldman on the topic. Representative Comer pointed out the allegations surrounding former Vice President Joe Biden's involvement in the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor general and stated that these allegations were false and lacked evidence.
Representative Goldman then raised the issue of media bias and the problem of people not trusting the information they receive. He pointed to the 2016 election, where the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign were found to have fabricated the Steele dossier, which was the basis of the Russia collusion investigation. He also referred to the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020, where Twitter censored the story even though one of the executives, Jack Dorsey, had not made the decision.
The representative argued that the American people deserve to have the facts to make informed decisions and that Twitter and other social media platforms got it wrong with their censorship. The representative further pointed out that there was evidence of the Biden family's relationships with the Chinese Communist Party and Ukraine and that the American people deserve to know the truth about these connections. Overall, the representative emphasized that the American people deserve better in terms of access to valid information to process decisions.
