President Joe Biden is in Detroit today to highlight the electric vehicle manufacturing boom in America.
Today, the president is going to be here right here in Detroit. Of course, this is President Joe Biden's opportunity to walk the floor of the North American International Auto Show before it opens to the public this weekend. And today is the start of media previews, but there's already been one big reveal. Last night, Chrysler unveiled a new full-size Chrysler 300 model, and it's going to pull the curtain away from it.
The Chrysler 300 will be the last model year until Chrysler transitions to electric vehicles in 2023. The President is coming today to Detroit, and there are major lines for all of the thousands of journalists from across the world. There are actually a lot of cool things to see outside here in the lobby too. I should have their setup here. They are a company that is around the globe that actually makes products and manufactures things like the technology and batteries that go into a lot of the vehicles that we're driving today.
Speaking of electric vehicles, as you mentioned, the president has a huge agenda push for EVs (Electric Vehicles). In fact, when he's here in a couple of hours, he will be focusing strictly on EVs inside the floor. We got a sneak peek inside this year's auto show at Huntington Place as it was being built and noticed a major feature is electric vehicles.
For the first time ever, all four General Motors brands will be featuring an electric vehicle. It's the first time they've done that at an auto show ever. Electric vehicles will be the headliner, especially during President Biden's visit today.
President Biden has put electric vehicles towards the top of his agenda. Last year, he visited GM's new factory zero plants. He also visited Ford as the automaker unveiled the f-150 Lightning. Biden's set a goal of having 50 percent of new cars sold by 2030 be electric.
He's also set aside $5 billion to build 500,000 charging stations across the country. The president was talking about those electric vehicles, and again, this company is one of those that has a major hand in producing those vehicles.
