Florida governor Ron DeSantis and Senate hopeful JD Vance are holding a Unite and Win rally in Ohio today at 6:00 PM EDT.
As we mentioned, DeSantis is appearing along with senate candidate JD Vance. We've already seen him with others like Kari Lake. Is this an attempt by Desantis to build a national profile before attempting a presidential run in 2024?
Overall, Desantis is hitting all of the Republican high notes. Not only is he appearing with all of these candidates who have been Trump-endorsed? Many of these election-denier candidates apply the same logic to former President Trump. But he's also motivated a lot of the former president's supporters. He's already built a massive war chest.
As we already know, illegal voting is something former President Trump touted as being a problem for the 2020 election. But now we have Ron Desantis announcing he's going after felons who voted, people who voted in two states, and undocumented immigrants who may have voted. This is the kind of stuff that could really hit home with the bases loaded. But if you're looking at a campaign that is beyond the base, it might be a little challenging. Why is he doing that now? Well, he's walking a very fine tightrope.
What To Know About DeSantis Rally In Ohio Today?
Ron Desantis is a very smart guy. I mean, he's a Yale and Harvard-educated guy who understands what he is doing here. And he is smart enough to know about law and order. So Americans have the right to vote. We want Americans to vote everywhere. But at the same time, we want people who are registered to vote to vote. He's going after people who voted unlawfully in this past election cycle. without mentioning his belief that the 2020 election will be rigged.
As a matter of fact, he said in the state of Florida, there was no fraud. And that, after their investigations, nothing fraudulent happened in the Florida elections in 2020.
But this is a great way to mollify the base and encourage others who believe in the importance of law and order. But he's all about law and order. So it's a very smart move on his part.
He's threading that needle very carefully in terms of JD Vance and Kari Lake and some of the candidates we talked about. He understands I think, the previous point. It's a very strategic move. He is playing chess, not checkers, in this game. He is showing himself at this huge turning point Unite and Win rallies with a lot of primary supporters. He is raising the money and profiles.
Remember, political parties need to raise money constantly. In order to support their candidates in the fall election, this becomes a way to raise capital right now, to energize the base and givers to give money, because of what many views as an unfair, encouraging body by the FBI and the justice department at Mar-a-Lago.
