पूर्व रक्षा मंत्री श्री मुलायम सिंह यादव एवं समाजवादी पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष श्री अखिलेश यादव ने प्रखर समाजवादी नेता श्री जार्ज फर्नान्डिस के निधन पर श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित करते हुए गहरा शोक व्यक्त किया। उन्होंने दिवंगत आत्मा की शांति के लिए प्रार्थना की है।

श्री अखिलेश यादव ने कहा कि श्री जार्ज फर्नान्डिस ने समाजवादी विचारधारा को गति देने के साथ श्रमिक आंदोलन का भी प्रभावी नेतृत्व किया था। केन्द्र सरकार में वे उद्योग, संचार, रेल एवं रक्षामंत्री रहे। 1974 के लोकसभा चुनावों में भारतीय रेल की ऐतिहासिक हड़ताल का उन्होंने नेतृत्व किया था। सन् 1967 के लोकसभा चुनावों में उन्होंने मुंबई में श्री एस.के. पाटिल को हराया था। आपातकाल के विरोध में उन्हें गिरफ्तारी के बाद भयंकर यातनाएं दी गई थी। 1977 में वे जेल से ही लोकसभा के लिए निर्वाचित हुए थे।

श्री अखिलेश यादव ने कहा कि जार्ज साहब जन्मजात विद्रोही राजनेता थे। मंत्री पद पर रहते हुए भी उन्होंने सुरक्षा नहीं ली थी। उनके बंगले में गेट नहीं था और कोई भी कभी भी उनसे बेहिचक मिल सकता था। उनके निधन से देश की अपूरणीय क्षति हुई है।
